The author of American Dirt came under fire after Oprah chose this book for her Book Club. Setting aside the critics' point of view, the story of American Dirt was truly captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook. The fiction book centers on a woman and her 7-year-old son, who survive a Cartel attack that brutally murders their entire family in front of them in Mexico. They know they need to flee, so they join the migrant migration to America in search of safety.
